Need help from a hairstylist,will my hair be messed up next time i cut it?

these past few months i've been cutting my own hair. it looks ok and I've learned to cut my hair witht he thinning shears(the things with one side like scissors and one side like a comb) my worry is that I'm going to go see a very good hairstyl.ist in a month but my hair probably has alot of uneven lengths and messed up layers from using the shears too much. can a good hair stylist cope with this and stilll cut the hair i want? or will i have ti cut it all off and start again?
